Description
Perseverance is sticking with something even through difficulties to finish it. This is a great song to sing when talking about learning to play an instrument or developing a new skill. Too many times students only see the end result of professional musicians, athletes, etc. and forget that these people had to persevere to get to the professional level. This song is based on “Yankee Doodle” which has historical roots in the American Revolution and the founding of America. This is a great marching song!
- MP3 of both vocals and instrumental
- Use this song as a basis of inspiration when starting to teach a new instrument; recorder, guitar, keyboard or any other new skill.
- Study the history behind “Yankee Doodle” and learn all the verses of the song
- Perseverance is a great song for marching. Have your students move to songs with different tempos that help them distinguish the difference between marching, tiptoeing, skipping, walking, jogging, galloping, etc. This is a great activity to develop your students listening and movement skills.
- Work ethic – Discuss with students what they want to do when they grow up. Help them make a plan to get to that dream and stress that if they work hard, and stick with it, they can succeed! Help your students discover that there are many kinds of successes in life!
