An Interview With Mrs. Muncy
Our fourth graders at Lincoln Elementary decided to write a newsletter for their class. While they were brainstorming what to write about, they came up with the idea of interviewing teachers to find out some of their background and interests. Seems like we have some budding journalists in our midst!
Imagine my surprise when they picked me as one of the teachers to interview! As a teacher, I always hope that my students know I care about them. It was a compliment for them to choose me.
Here is a copy of the questionnaire they gave me.
Below are my responses.
1. What was it like in college? I attended Cincinnati Christian University for one year and enjoyed living on campus in Cincinnati. I made many life long friends, and had some wonderful teachers. It was a fun year, and I met Rob Muncy, who is now my husband. Northern Kentucky University offered me a 4 year full scholarship, so I decided to pursue a music education degree there. I lived at home, which saved money, and commuted to the NKU campus for 4 years. There were a lot of wonderful teachers at NKU and I got a lot of training and experience in both music and teaching to prepare me for a career in music education.
2. What do you do in your free time? I enjoy spending time with my husband Rob. We love to travel and visit our daughters – Caitlyn in Los Angeles, CA and Bethany in Japan. I am the adult choir director at Sherwood Oaks Christian Church in Bloomington and enjoy leading the choir and orchestra at the church. Songwriting is something I enjoy and write many of the songs and programs that we perform at school. My daughter Caitlyn has helped me design a website and our goal is to set up an online store to someday sell my music, programs, and lessons. I sing in a ladies trio and we travel and sing at churches and events.
3. Do you enjoy your job? Yes I do. I love teaching music. Music has always been a big part of my life. My goal is to inspire my students to become lifelong musicians – whether singing or playing an instrument just for fun or professionally.
4. Do you feel like you want to quit your job sometimes and why? No. I love my job. Sometimes it’s hard to get up on a dark, cold or rainy morning, but I always feel better when I get to school and see my students!
5. If you were an animal what would you want to be? A Cat
6. What countries have you traveled to? Japan, Korea, England, France, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Italy, Romania, Hungary
7. What is your favorite candy? Anything chocolate
8. What is your favorite food? Strawberries
A good teacher can inspire hope, ignite the imagination, and instill a love of learning.
